Ever scroll through Tumblr, or even Pinterest, and find so many cool pictures, and wonder “hmm.. How could I make a wallpaper with all these awesome pictures?” Well look no further! I’m going to show you how to make a tumblr inspired wallpaper! I have made a couple wallpapers since I figured out how to do this, because I find myself saving so many pictures I find from pinterest or online on my computer or iPhone, but I never do anything with them.
I used GIMP, the photo editor program, to edit and create my wallpaper, but you could easily use paint on your computer to create it. You will want to know the size of your computer screen, which mine is a 13″ Macbook, so my dimensions are 1280 x 800. All I did was google my type of computer’s wallpaper size.
Now that you have your dimensions, you’ll want to open your editing program, GIMP or paint. I will be demonstrating how to do this on GIMP. So go to file, new, and the box for the new project will pop up, and you want to punch in your dimensions, so I did 1280 x 800 and press OK. Once it pops up, you can go find your photos! I went to Tumblr, Pinterest, and Google to find photos.
Once you find a pictures, you could just save them to your computer, but I didn’t want to waste space on my computer, so I went in, right clicked on the photo, and clicked “copy image.” Once you do that, go back to GIMP, and go to edit, then paste, and it will appear on your “canvas.” I would normally use the command+V shortcut, but for some reason it doesn’t work for me in GIMP.
You will want to size this photo down now, so go to the layers tab, right click on “floating selection,” and then down to “scale layer.” You will want your width of each photo to be the same, so they all fit together, so I used 300 pixels for all of mine. 300 pixels is a bit big, so depending on how you want yours, the bigger or smaller the pixel size will be. To fit more photos on the wallpaper, I would use something more like 200-250 pixels.
From here everything is up to you! You will want to play around with where you want certain pictures to go, and the spacing you want between the pictures. I love doing these wallpapers, cause it is customized to your likings. Here is my final product!
XOXO, AM ♡
